About the Aquarium
The New England Aquarium opened in 1969, revitalizing Boston's Central Wharf and creating a cultural institution that connects visitors to the waterfront. Today the Aquarium includes more than 70 exhibits and 26,000 animals. The aquarium experience continues to be redefined for visitors while engaging in research and conservation efforts around the world.
IMAX Theatre
At the Aquarium's Simons IMAX Theatre, you won't just watch a film, you'll be there, thanks to amazing IMAX 3D technology. It's 12,000 watts of digital sound and New England's largest screen. The giant screen - 65' high by 85' wide - is taller than a six story building! The slight curvature of the screen extends to the edge of your peripheral vision. Don't miss the most cinematic way imaginable to see these beautiful and astounding creatures of the deep.
Amazing IMAX films will take you where you've only dreamed of going! Join us for incredible journeys to the bottom of the sea, outer space, and almost anywhere in between. Through the magic of IMAX and IMAX 3D, you can visit animals and habitats that are too large, too small or too endangered to exhibit in an Aquarium setting.
